About Me

About Me

Hello! My name is Braden Soika, and I am in the midst of pursuing something I’ve had a passion for for a very long time.

I welcome you to my blog! As someone who takes a serious interest in photography along with travel, this is where I will be documenting my adventures and experiences throughout the years to come, along with sharing the memories I have created in the past.

My goal is to hopefully gain a big enough following to the point where I can inspire even a handful amount of people to pursue their passions and to branch out of their comfort zones in terms of traveling.

In no way am I a travel expert as I am still very young and have a lot to learn. Over the years to come, I hope to gain more and more knowledge to the point where I can benefit those who read what I have to say.

I want to share my views of the world, and what travel and photography mean to me. I value this world like no other, and the hidden mysteries of the world need to be explored with caution and shared with those who have the passion for exploration. To shed light on the natural wonders of the world and to bring forth the vast array of cultures that inhabit it would be a dream come true.

What makes you standout from many other travel enthusiasts?

I can’t necessarily say exactly what makes me stand out from everyone else other than the fact that I want to explore the world to bring light to what could be lost. There are many locations around the globe that are slowly losing its natural beauty due to industrialism. I don’t travel for the joy of uploading pictures to Instagram so that I can make other people wish they could do what I potentially hope to do. I travel to raise awareness to what could be lost and to show how much beauty is really out there and needs to be protected. There’s beauty everywhere you go, you just have to know where to look for it.

What inspired you to go down this path?

In terms of traveling, there haven’t been too many inspirational things in my life that pushed me to do what I want to do. The most important, and arguably the only things that pushed me, is Into the Wild and a man by the name of Matthew Karsten. I’ll start off with how Into the Wild inspired me from a young age. Back in my sophomore year of high school, we were assigned to read the book Into the Wild. Now, given the fact that I’m not much of a reader, I didn’t read the book when we were required to. It wasn’t until we watched the movie as a class that I truly felt the impact of Alexander Supertramp’s story. To drop everything after college, pack up and leave while traveling as a nomad was something that truly opened my eyes. I could feel the sense of freedom and it filled the hole in my chest that longed to be filled. The missing piece of the puzzle was in the form of literature as ironic as that sounds. With Matthew on the other hand, he not only inspired me to travel, but to really dive deep into the art of photography. Specifically landscape. His blog,¬†https://expertvagabond.com/, was an eye opener to me and he provided such insight and helpful tips that made it seem like anyone could do what he does. Now, what he’s doing is something that he’s done for a long time and took many years for him to get where he’s at now. Needless to say, I was up for the challenge and he gave me the inspiration I needed to start a blog.

Any plans for the future?

As of now, I’ll go wherever my heart decides to take me. As cliche as that might sound, it’s nothing but the truth in my case.

Where are you based at?

I’m based just outside of Portland, OR. Given this location, I will likely travel to areas/states that are closer by to home before branching out across country.
